LEICESTER’S Kyle Howarth can’t wait for his ‘fresh start’ back at the Hydroscand Arena, Beaumont Park this season.
Howarth, a former skipper of the Watling JCB Lions and crowd favourite when they raced in the second tier of the sport, has returned to the club in the ROWE Motor Oil Premiership after a lengthy spell with rivals Sheffield.
And he feels the timing is exactly right for the move ahead of a season which sees him switch clubs in both leagues as he also joins Glasgow at Championship level.
Howarth said: “I’m really looking forward to going into a fresh team, being put on the edge and you know you’ve got to prove yourself.
“I haven’t looked forward to a season like this for a while now. I’ve got two new clubs, two fresh starts, and I’ve got some really good people around me with my mechanics and sponsors.
“This year I feel like I’ve got a bit of a spark back in myself, because last year was a bit tough on and off the track and I’m really looking forward to that fresh start.
“I know what I can do, I know what I can achieve, and I can be a very good, consistent rider. I want to get back to that because last year was just up and down and I couldn’t find any consistency.
“It was frustrating for me because I’m renowned for being a consistent rider, I can make starts, I can pass and I can win races from the front, and I’ve shown in the past what I can do in the Premiership.
“Stewart (Dickson) wants racers in his team, and he’s worked with me in the past and he knows what I bring to the table. Leicester was one club I was looking to go to, and when Stewart rang it was a no-brainer.”
Howarth will be in action at Leicester on Saturday March 22 when Ryan Douglas celebrates his Testimonial Meeting, with a 4pm start, with the Watling JCB Lions then going into team action the following week against Birmingham in the KO Cup.
